Five teenagers have been identified as responsible for anti-social behaviour in Harpenden's parks and each has been given an Acceptable Behaviour Agreement, Hertfordshire Constabulary said in its latest update on the local policing priority. Parents have been told. If the agreements are breached, the young people could face a Criminal Behaviour Order, and officers say more agreements are being prepared for others causing problems. The places named include Rothamsted Park, Harpenden Common, Redbourn Common and Oakley Road, where the complaints have been about drinking, drug smoking and abusive behaviour.

Patrols will continue, in uniform and in plain clothes, and the force is working with Harpenden Town Council and neighbouring parish councils to set up sports activities — which officers say will take some time to arrange. That last part is the one worth watching: warnings move the problem around the town, while somewhere to go on a Friday evening is the only thing that ends it. How long is "some time", and will there be anything running before the clocks go back?
